Learn Spoken English,


Unit II


It is used to show running action, present running action but not at the time of speaking, description, future

The following adverbs are used with this tense:
Now, Presently, At present, These days, Now a days, today


STRUCTURE – 2
Basic Structure     :        Sub. + is/are/am + ing form + Obj.

 




Affirmative                            :           Sub. + is/are/am + Verb I form + ing form + Obj.
Negative                                 :           Sub. + is/are/am + not + ing form + Obj.
Interrogative                          :           is/are/am + Sub. + ing form + Obj.?
Interrogative Negative          :           is/are/am + Sub. + not + ing form + Obj.?
Passive                                    :           Obj. + is/are/am + being +  ing form + by + Sub.

Singular Subjects: He, She, It, Singular noun as Rohit, student,  etc.
·        Helping Verb: Is

Plural Subjects: We, You, They, and Plural nouns as people, boys, colleges.
·        Helping Verb: Are

Subject ‘I’ takes ‘am’ helping verb.

Important:
In Spoken English, while speaking interrogative, we can use the following structure

Is/are/am + not + Sub. + V I form + ing form + Obj.?

Are your not participating in extempore?
Aren’t you participating in extempore? (Colloquial structure)

B.   Suppose that you are watching a live match of Indian Cricket Team, now you give the live description of the match.

C.    

Affirmative                            :           He is listening to music right now.                
Negative                                 :           He is not listening to music right now.
Interrogative                          :           Is he listening to music right now?
Interrogative Negative          :           Is he not listening to music right now?
Passive                                    :           Music is being listened to by him right now.

Now speak sentences of Present Continuous Tense using all these structures and the following main verb. Try using the adverbs as well.


Swim in the pool

Chide kids

Saving money

Play on flute

Invest money

Design a paper
Work on a drama

Stroll in the garden

Perform well
Decorate room

Do shopping

Send message
Writing a letter

v  The following verbs do not take Ing form with them so try avoiding them.
Feel, Love, Hate, Desire, Hope,



Important:

The following sentences are spoken in Present Continuous though they do not show any running action as-

She is wearing black suit.
He is wearing nice hair cut.
They are sitting in the chair.
