Unit – 5

It is used to talk about the work or action occurred at some point of time and ended in past as well. It tells about past habit or routine also.

The following adverbs are used with this tense:

Ago, Before, Yesterday, Last day/week/month/year, back etc.

STRUCTURE – 5

Basic Structure     :        Sub. + V II form + Obj.

 

Affirmative                            :           Sub. + V II form + Obj.

Negative                                 :           Sub. + did + not + Verb I form + Obj.

Interrogative                          :           Did + Sub. + Verb I form + Obj.?

Interrogative Negative          :           Did + Sub. + not + Verb I form + Obj.?

Passive                                    :           Obj. + was/were + V III form + by + Sub

Important:

When ‘did’ helping verb is used in the sentence, only V I form is used then.

In Spoken English, while speaking interrogative, we can use the following structure

Did + not + Sub. + V I form + Obj.?

Did you not visit zoo at Jaipur?

Didn’t you visit zoo at Jaipur? (Colloquial structure)
